We are excited to begin another Finntastic school year with your children here at Ross. For our new friends who are joining us for the first time; We welcome you to the Ross School community. For our returning friends we hope you all had a well-deserved summer break full of opportunities to relax, laugh with family and friends and enjoy this wonderful area of Welland.

We are pleased to provide an outstanding education at Ross Public School for our students. Innovative programs that meet the needs of all our students are taught by our dedicated and professional staff who care about your child.

Our Board is focused on literacy and numeracy achievement and creating an environment where we are working together on our goal of success for every student. We also value the community partnerships and parent involvement which are so crucial to a successful education for our students.

Ancestral Land Acknowledgement used by Ross and the DSBN:

A Land acknowledgement is a customary practice of Indigenous Peoples. It is a sign of respect and reciprocity when entering,
gathering and utilizing another’s space and place. Indigenous Peoples continue this practice amongst their Nations. Today the
practice is beginning to be understood and utilized to renew, respect, reconcile and reciprocate Indigenous and
non-Indigenous relations. The practice also serves as a reminder of pre and post-European contact histories, treaty relations and
obligations, as well as providing information for newcomers, now entering Indigenous territories. Today acknowledgements are
used for opening announcements in schools, events, gatherings and meetings; that specifically recognize the Nations who hold
treaty, right and title in the territory.

We use the Land Acknowledgement at our school gatherings and use it to begin each week on the announcements.
